Motorcycle lemon law, state by state

Motorcycle coverage is the least accurately reported cell in lemon law. This page is the census: covered, excluded, and — honestly labeled — undecided.

Covered

California, Texas, New York, Washington, Oregon, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Arizona, New Jersey, Georgia, Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin.

Excluded

Florida, Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Vermont, District of Columbia.

Genuinely undecided — we print the warning, not a guess

Delaware, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming. In these four states the statute's vehicle definition does not settle motorcycle coverage.

The little divisors

On a motorcycle, a 20,000–25,000 divisor makes every early mile expensive. Report defects in writing, immediately.

Recent corrections: Pennsylvania added motorcycles with Act 151 of 2024 (effective May 18, 2025). Hawaii's current law covers them. Big national charts still carry both cells wrong.
