Motorcycle lemon laws: covered, excluded, undecided

The national census behind this site counts 28 states covering motorcycles, 18 excluding them, and 4 — Delaware, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota — where the statute's vehicle definition does not settle the question. Any site that prints a flat yes/no for those four is guessing; we print the warning on the state page.

Covered states often use brutal little divisors in the buyback math: Wisconsin 20,000; Massachusetts 25,000; Washington 25,000; Oregon 25,000; New Hampshire 40,000 for bikes over 250cc and 20,000 for bikes 250cc and under. On a $15,000 motorcycle, a 25,000 divisor makes every early mile expensive — another reason to report defects in writing immediately.

Two recent corrections matter: Pennsylvania added motorcycles with Act 151 of 2024 (effective May 18, 2025), and Hawaii's current §481I-2 covers them. Florida, Vermont, Alaska, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and DC exclude them. Big national charts still carry several of these cells wrong.
